Medical management of risk factors for vascular disease

2012
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is an extremely powerful marker of the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack. Correctable risk factors include smoking, dyslipidaemia, hypertension and obesity. Addressing these risk factors in addition to control of diabetes, use of antiplatelet therapy and promotion of exercise can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular morbidity. It is essential that patients with PAD receive this advice and treatment.
